The Cairn Hill mine project is 55km southeast of Coober Pedy, around 16km from the Stuart Highway and 90km from the Wirrida Siding on the Tarcoola to Alice Springs railway, and is considered to be a straightforward, contract mining and crushing operation consisting of mobile and secondary crushing units with a product stacker, and ore crushed to sub 40mm product.

The site produces a premium coarse-grained magnetite-copper-gold direct shipping ore (DSO) product at a rate of round 1.8mtpa.

Mine status

Based on the current life of the mine, shipments from Cairn Hill are forecast to cease in February 2015. The company is looking at phase two development which has the potential to extend the life of operations for a further 12 to 15 months.
